Premises of Kawkab America Newspaper

Somewhat removed from the Syrian enclave on Washington Street, the first Arabic newspaper, Kawkab America was printed at 45 Pearl Street.
The premises of Kawkab America, the first Arabic newspaper printed in the United States, were at 45 Pearl Street. It was an office and print shop during the day, and an apartment at night, when the office couches became beds for the publishers and editors, including Abraham and Nageeb Arbeely, Abraham Rihbany, Najeeb Diab and others. Apparently its rooms were decorated in "Oriental splendor," with Persian rugs on the floor, crossed daggers on the wall, and inlaid tables.
