60-62 Washington Street
"A Five-Story Business House Occupied by Syrian Firms."
In the 1890s, two buildings on the west side of Washington Street were combined to offer large unobstructed spaces that would be suitable for factories. 60-62 Washington housed many Syrian businesses: factories turning out cigarettes, brushes, suspenders, and textiles shared space with wholesalers and newpaper publishers. Reaching all the way to West Street, it was convenient for shipping goods from the Hudson River Piers.
